Do you have an intellectual friend you want to lure into comic books? Maybe you want to impress a special someone with your knowledge of history and mysticism? Or perhaps you’re just a huge fan of Neil Gaiman’s THE SANDMAN? If any of those things apply to you (or not), Vertigo has just the re-release for you!

The first two volumes of “The Annotated Sandman” are available now, complete with commentary on each issue, notes on the historical and contemporary references within the panels, and highlighting of symbolism and other literary devices. While the original series requires several rereads to get the full experience of the comic, this version brings up all that you may have missed. Who needs Wikipedia when the annotator, Les Klinger—who had exclusive access to all of Gaiman’s original scripts and in-depth discussions with the man himself—gives you full explanations right on the pages?
