Earlier in the week fans were buzzing about the first look at Grant Gustin in his new Flash costume. Before that we learned about the official description and logo reveal for Gotham. The other day DC Comics News reported the new lead role for cast for iZombie. Well there’s more news for another upcoming DC television series.

A photo of Constantine’s first day of shooting for their pilot leaked onto the Internet recently and gave fans a first look at Matt Ryan as John Constantine (shown below). And it’s pretty spot on. The trademark trenchcoat and the loosened necktie make it close to comic perfection. All he is missing is in this picture is a cigarette. The naturally dark brown-haired actor even dyed his hair blonde for the role.

Now shortly after that image hit the web, WBTV released an official promotional image that showcases Matt Ryan as John Constantine. The promotional photo can be seen below. In the press release, an official logline for the show was released as well stating:

“Constantine follows enigmatic and irreverent Liverpool con-man-turned-occult-detective John Constantine, who is reluctantly thrust into the role of defending our world against dark forces from beyond.”

The producer of the series stated that he’s been a big fan of Constantine since he was introduced in 1985. He went on to say that “this Constantine looks like he sprang directly from the comic covers” and that “fans of old and new are going to be in for a treat.”

It looks like NBC will gaining a lot of interest from fans by adapting a more faithful version of the DC ‘Hellblazer’ than the Keanu Reeves movie version from 2005. The Welsh actor, Matt Ryan, appeared in Assassin’s Creed IV as Edward Kenway and now has the blonde, Englishman Hellblazer look down pretty accurately. Even the smug look in both the professional and the leaked photos match the character perfectly. We can only wait and see if the accurate portrayal of the supernatural detective follows through with the acting as well!
