Felicity’s Mom is coming to Arrow

Spoiler alert! A new character has been introduced into the Arrow universe and it is none other than Felicity’s mother.

Arrow is a show with many flashbacks, most of which tend to center around the main character. However last season viewers got to see some flashbacks from John Diggle’s point of view as well as Sara Lance’s, Black Canary, point of view. So slowly and steadily the show has been branching out to show more from the other characters and their pasts. This also includes one brief mention Felicity made when she spoke to Oliver revealing the truth of Thea’s parentage. And now, the show is going to go more in depth with Felicity, the brains behind the computer, by bringing in her mother.

Felicity’s mother will be played by Charlotte Ross from NYPD Blue. As of right now her mother will make at least one appearance in early November. Details about her character are still being kept secret in the confines of the Quiver (Ollie’s lair) but will reveal the secret origin of Felicity Smoak. The title of the episode will be called “Oracle”, a title that draws symmetry between her and Barbara Gordon’s time behind the computer as the tech genius of the team. Don’t you just love all the comic book references this show makes, however subtle? I know I sure do.

Marc Guggenehim, executive producer on the show had this to say:

“We are absolutely going to get to know her. We know that she went to MIT, we know that her mom was cocktail waitress in Vegas and we’re going to meet that mom. And we also know that her dad is not in the picture.”

For fans of the comics, there really hasn’t been much done with her character in years. She was a minor character who was mainly just known at being Robbie, Firestorms, stepmom. However, as it stands now, this show has done so much for this character, bringing her to life and giving a larger role in the DC Universe.
