Executive producer, Bruno Heller, has revealed that The Joker will be coming to Fox’s Gotham.

Bruno Heller revealed that the beginning of Gotham’s second season will be focused on the Joker’s backstory. Heller also said that there will be hints at The Joker towards the end of season one.

“You’re not going to see teases of The Joker before the end of the season, because the beginning of Season Two is a big Joker-oriented, or ‘how the Joker came to be’ kind of story. The beginning of Season Two is the very earliest origins of how The Joker came to be.”

A popular theory at the moment is that a man named Jerome, who murdered his mother, is the Joker. Jerome appeared in an earlier episode and was played by Cameron Monaghan. It has been confirmed the Monaghan will be appearing in season two and that we will be seeing some more of Jerome’s story.

It seems we will have to wait until season two, however, to find out if there’s anything to this theory.
