Batman is a character with endless popularity. Cosplayers can be spotted en masse at any comic-con showing off their interpretation of the Dark Knight. However, few of these interpretations prove quite as realistic as this particular record-breaking suit.
Julian Checkley has created a Batman suit which breaks the world record for “Most functional gadgets on a cosplay suit.” He has earned his place in the Gamer’s Edition of the 2017 Guinness World Records by adorning his hi-tech suit with 23 working gadgets which would be fit for use by the Dark Knight himself. Julian has a background as a special creature effects expert, making him more than apt for the task of designing a suit like this one.
The suit based on the ground-breaking Arkham Origins video game was 3D printed before being moulded and cast in a flexible urethane rubber. Then it was trimmed, detailed, painted and then mounted onto a specially designed undersuit. Julian’s special effects skills came into play when it was applied to his body cast before being weathered to look like it had seen its fair share of battle. The Batsuit stands at 6”10’ (208cm) when worn, making it an imposing and striking sight.
Julian even contacted an electrical engineer to help develop the 2000watt EMP Stun Gun, one of the more complex gadgets in this suit’s arsenal. Julian spoke about his suit saying:
“There were many long hours trying devising the gadgets and finding ways to store them on the suit. They are classic gadgets but also some are specific to Batman: Arkham Origins. I am immensely proud of my Guinness World Records title and to be part of the Gamer’s Edition is just the next level.”
Stephen Daultrey, Edition of this year’s Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition spoke out in acclaim for the project saying:
“This incredible cosplay suit is a great example of the eclectic records that appear in this year’s Gamer’s Edition 2017. The detail and imagination behind the gadgets take the meaning of cosplay to a whole new level.”
The Guinness World Records: Gamers Edition 2017 is set to release on September 8. The following is a list of all of the gadgets featured on the suit.
