Baltimore Comic Con 2016: Day 3

I’ll pick up where I left off in the last article.

The Harvey Awards

I had the privilege of sitting at Dean Haspiel’s table. Dean was the keynote speaker and delivered a powerful speech about the struggles that many comic artists face in this day and age. I was fortunate enough to witness cartoonist Al Jaffee be inducted into the Harvey Kurtzman Hall of Fame and artist Joe Giella receive the Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award.

Some the great cos-play I was able to capture from all 3 days.

Finally on to day 3,

After seeing Howard Chaykin in the panels I took in on Friday and Saturday I knew I couldn’t miss his “Spotlight” panel later in the day. So, with a couple of hours to kill I hit the con floor to do some shopping. I picked up from a vendor Marvel Masterworks Jungle Adventures vol. 1 & 2, as well as Boy Commandos vol.1 for $20 a piece.

I took a walk through Artists Alley and purchased Cleopatra In Space book 3 for my daughter from artist/writer Mike Maihack, Power Skull from artist/writer Jason Horn, and Ancient Noise from writer David Crispino (with art by Tony Gregori and colors by Jasen Smith).

I also picked up a Kirby/Steranko inspired Captain America print from artist Frank Cho and Paolo Rivera’s art book Face Paint with a nice little surprise inside.

And with that I made my way upstairs to take in the “Spotlight On Howard Chaykin” panel.

CAUTION: NSFW

On the way out I grabbed the con exclusive comics for Frank Cho’s Skybourne and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Special by Eric Powell.

Before our last video, I would like to thank the following people.

David Jefferies, Jason Dougherty and all the “Minions” who work tirelessly to make this show run smooth year after year!

And a very special thanks to Roger Ash and Randy Tischler.

And most of all the organizer of the show (and owner of Cards, Comics and Collectibles) Marc Nathan!

The Baltimore Comic Con will return on September 22-24, 2017….SAVE THE DATE!

I can think of no better way to close the 2016 Baltimore Comic Con than to have Howard Chaykin sing us out!
