On the season two premiere of Supergirl, the titular character teams up with her cousin Superman in order to fight a new threat in Central City.
In this first trailer, the team up is mostly teased. The point is to build the epic feeling of these two being on screen together for the first time in full costume. Smallville doesn’t count; they weren’t in costume. A lot of people prefer the Berlanti-verse to the DC extended universe so seeing Superman in this world has got to be really exciting for people.
In the second trailer, the tone is presented without shame. This is going to be a fun and wild ride. The episode looks insanely exciting and I know absolutely nothing about the plot yet. I love that. Kara’s personality shines through and it’s wonderful. I especially like that she is playfully competitive with Clark. We saw that when Grant Gustin guest starred as the Flash so it’s cool to see that consistent character trait.
With both trailers, we get a good look at Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and Clark Kent. He only has one line so it’s hard to get a gauge of his performance. However, the charisma of Superman really comes across. Hoechlin appears to be carrying this role well. And he certainly looks the part.
Some people were concerned that the network move might result in a budget cut and a show that didn’t look as good. Judging from these trailers, those fears can be put aside. I honestly cannot even tell the difference. Granted, I’m only seeing small glimpses but from what I can see, the production value looks fantastic.
“The Adventures of Supergirl” is written by Jessica Queller and directed by Glen Winter. The episode airs Monday October 10 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time on the CW.
