Warner Bros. has announced that David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes will be in charge of writing the script for DC Extended Universe’s upcoming entry, Green Lantern Corps.

According to Deadline, David Goyer will also act as producer the film, with Geoff Johns and Jon Berg as executive producers.

The new version is described as Lethal Weapon in space, and it’s based on a comic book origin story. The focus will be on two characters: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The latter is an African American Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps and the story very much focuses on his relationship with Jordan and the Corps. The story was conceived by Goyer and Johns.

The studio has not yet announced a release date for Green Lantern Corps, and no information regarding Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner was spotted. As well, there was no indication the studio wants to reengage with Ryan Reynolds for the role of Hal Jordan. Even though there is no firm release date, back in 2014, the GL movie was announced as being set for July 24, 2020 when Warner Bros. revealed their film slate.
