Barbara returns to Burnside only to find it changed.
Positives
I like the cover by Chris Wildgoose a lot. It’s well drawn and I like the image a lot. Batgirl is swinging through the air having fun while a potential threat looms in the background. It’s neat.
The interior art is done by Wildgoose with colors by Mat Lopes. It’s quite good as well. The faces are expressive which I like a lot. A lot of the colors look really nice as well especially in the pool scene.
I like a lot of what’s happening in the story. The idea of Barbara returning home and having to deal with change is interesting and relatable. It’s a weird thing to have to deal with sometimes. One’s perception has to change. I also like that she’s going back to school for library science. She prefers community to big business; her company has gotten too big for her tastes. I buy this a lot; Barbara is also a character that always wants to learn so I think this is a good choice.
The son of Penguin, Ethan, is potentially interesting. He owns a tech company that could be involved in some shady stuff but seems to agree with some of Barbara’s worldview. It’s a neat concept and I am curious to see where it goes.
Verdict
This is a strong start to the new story. I really like all of the stuff with Barbara having to face major changes in her town and personal life after being gone for a while. Life moves on whether one is there to see it or not. The art is pretty good as well. I recommend checking this issue out.
