Ben Affleck won’t be directing Batman, he wants to focus more on his role as the lead actor which is great news. So with that, Warner Brothers have put together a short list of candidates to direct the highly anticipated film. Matt Ross is part of that list, but the studio is planning on having its first conversation with Matt Reeves (who just finished the latest Planet of the Apes film).

Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck penned the script to Batman, and recently Chris Terrio (who wrote the Oscar Winning film Argo) handed in a re-write of the script. Given the history behind the previous Batman films with Nolan and Burton creating iconic and hugely successful franchises, it would have been a huge task for Ben Affleck to spread himself across playing the lead and directing. This now gives him the focus on his Bruce Wayne / Batman persona which I am sure fans will appreciate.

Ben Affleck said:

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
