It has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that actor-director Mel Gibson is in talks* with Warner Bros. Studios to take the helm as the director of Suicide Squad 2, taking over for David Ayer, who directed 2016’s Suicide Squad and is currently shifting his attention to the Gotham City Sirens film.

No official deal has been made, though sources say that Gibson already taking the initiative and getting up to speed with the material. Although Mel is the top choice to direct the film, the studio is not allowing him to bide his time and is even looking to other directors.

Nothing has been made official just yet and if Gibson does decide to pass on Suicide Squad 2, other directors said to be in the running for the film include  Jonathan Levine (The Night Before), Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), and Daniel Espinosa (Life).
