The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Warner Bros. Studio is currently in talks with Chris McKay to bring Dick Grayson, AKA Nightwing, to the big screen in his own live-action film. Director Chris McKay(The LEGO Batman Movie) will take the lead in this venture as the film’s director with Bill Dubuque(The Accountant) writing the script.

Fans know Dick Grayson as the original Robin, leader of the Teen Titans and the world’s first teenage sidekick. The youngest member of a family of acrobats known as the “Flying Graysons”, Dick was tragically orphaned after his parents were murdered by mafia boss Tony Zucco, eventually becoming the legal ward to Bruce Wayne/Batman. Grayson made his comics debut in Detective Comics #38 in April of 1940 and would use the Robin persona all the way until the 1980s when he adopts his own superhero identity, Nightwing.

Though we have seen the character in DC Comics based films before –Batman Forever, Batman & Robin and more recently, The LEGO Batman Movie – we have yet to see him in his own feature film and each of these films has had him under the identity of Robin. Robin has not yet officially made an appearance in the DC Extended Universe but the character has been confirmed to exist in the shared universe by director Zack Snyder and the tattered Robin suit shown in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Zack Snyder has previously stated that at this point in time, Robin has already been killed by The Joker (with some assistance from Harley Quinn), leaving fans to speculate whether the Robin who died in the extended universe was Dick Grayson or Jason Todd, the second Robin who was savagely beaten and killed by The Joker in the comics. The Nightwing project highly suggests that it was Jason Todd’s Robin that was killed after replacing Dick Grayson as the Boy Wonder.

Though there is no information on the cast, story or release date, we are aware that the Nightwing movie will join DC’s shared universe of live-action films and will be directed by Chris McKay, who recently directed the DC Comics animated film, The LEGO Batman Movie, and written by Bill Dubuque, writer of the film, The Accountant. We at DCN will report on all news on the film as it becomes available.
