iZombie Star goes from eating brains to Supergirl Villain

Supergirl is a getting a new villain to tangle with this season, and he will definitely be a familiar face to many DC and CW fans.

Rahul Kohli, who currently stars as medical examiner Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti on the hit CW television show, iZombie, will play the role of Jack Spheer, a charismatic genius who has spent most of his life working on a medical invention that would eliminate major illnesses, and change the world, in this season’s 18th episode titled “Ace Reporter.”

Jack comes to National City to demonstrate his technology to members of the press, including Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and Snapper Carr (Ian Gomez). His arrival also seems to stir up feelings in his old flame Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).

DC fans may know the name Jack Spheer when he first appeared in Power Company #6 (September 2002). He was the CEO of Biospheer Technologies, who developed the Biomax Process, a plasma that could control organic tissue. An accident occurred (as they often do in comics) that mutated Jack into the villain Biomax, and gave him the power and ability to control the minds of people.

“I’m so excited to be working on Supergirl starring as Jack Spheer,” Kohli says. “It’s given me the chance to continue my relationship with The CW as well as fulfill my goal of meeting a Kryptonian.”

According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, the episode will heavily feature Kara’s journalism side.

“That’s actually been very important to us, especially in the times we now find ourselves living in; we’re one of the few shows on television that actually has a journalist as a lead character.”

I for one cannot wait to see a Kara journalism centric episode. It seems that this season of Supergirl has been more about fighting aliens, and not enough of Supergirl as a person, and building her character. The second season got away from that quite a bit, so hopefully this will be a step in the right direction. Less Supergirl, and more Kara Danvers.
