Actor Alexander Siddig, best known for his roles on hit television shows such as Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has landed a role on FOX’s Gotham as Batman’s immortal foe, Ra’s Al Ghul.

Ra’s Al Ghul, or “The Demon’s Head” is best known as an international terrorist who has utilized the powers of the Lazarus Pit to extend his life far past its natural length. His primary objective is to bring the world into a state of perfection through the destruction of the majority of the human populace.

First appearing in Batman #232 in June of 1971, Ra’s Al Ghul is perhaps Batman’s most cunning and dangerous adversary, excluding The Joker, as he is one of the few among Batman’s foes to deduce his true identity. Though he is a villain, Ra’s shows a high amount of respect for Batman as he has never revealed his identity to the general public and even considers him as his potential heir.

Ra’s Al Ghul has appeared in various forms of media, most notably in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, portrayed by Liam Neeson and  again in The CW’s Arrow television series as the main villain of season 3, played by Matthew Nable.

In Gotham, Ra’s will appear to Bruce Wayne as he digs deeper into the mystery of the Court of Owls and who is really at the head of the mysterious organization. Though we’re not sure what events will transpire afterwards, it is certain that the Demon’s Head will prove to be a worthy challenge for the future Dark Knight.

Gotham returns from its winter hiatus to continue its third season on Monday, April 24. Alexander Siddig is set to appear as Ra’s Al Ghul during this time.
