Fans of DC Comics’ female-centric property, DC Super Hero Girls, has a second feature film on the way, slated for release just two months from now.

Launched online in July 2015 by Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment in partnership with Mattel, DC Super-Hero Girls features animated versions of classic DC characters, male and female, attending Super Hero High School. But with the focus on young female heroes — including Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Katana, Bumblebee, and Poison Ivy — the DC Super Hero Girls universe “encourages young girls, ages 6-12, to explore their own powers and strengths,” according to Warner Bros. publicity info, which adds, “The franchise offers young fans inspiration and encourages teamwork, friendship and empowerment.”

In addition to books, graphic novels, and a toy line, DC Super Hero Girls 38 digital cartoon episodes released to YouTube. The first 13 episodes came out between Oct. 1, 2015, and Feb. 25, 2016, with the second season of 25 episodes released between April 21, 2016, and Jan. 12, 2017.

The series’ first feature film, DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year, came out on Aug. 23, 2016.

Now, a second film is on the way.

In a March 10 press release, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) and DC Entertainment announced the release of DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games. Written by Shea Fontana and directed by Cecilia Aranovich Hamilton, the new movie will be available on Digital HD starting May 9, and on DVD (at a $19.99 suggested retail price) starting  May 23.

In the press release, DC says the 76-minute film has the super heroes “square off against Korugar Academy in the Intergalactic Games.

“But trouble is in the air as Lena Luthor takes advantage of the gathering of the Supers to enact her villainous plan,” the plot detail reads. “It’s up to the DC Super Hero Girls to fight the forces of evil and protect their school. With Wonder Woman’s strength, Supergirl’s speed, Batgirl’s strategic knowledge, Poison Ivy’s ability to make things grow, Harley Quinn’s energy, Bumblebee’s ability to shrink, and Katana’s fearless personality . . . anything is possible.”

DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games features some of the top voice actors in the industry, including Grey Griffin (Wonder Woman), Tara Strong (Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy), Anais Fairweather (Supergirl), Mae Whitman (Batgirl), Teala Dunn (Bumblebee), and Stephanie Sheh (Katana).

Jennifer Coyle serves as producer of the film, with Sam Register as executive producer.

The upcoming DVD releases also features, “That’s My Girl,” a music video featuring superstar pop group Fifth Harmony.

Both the DVD and the Digital HD release will include seven animated shorts from the second seasons of the show, including, “New Beginnings,” “Hero of the Month: Supergirl,” “Batgirl vs. Supergirl,” “Quinn-tessential Harley,” “Doubles Trouble,” “Franken-Ivy,” and “Dude, Where’s My Invisible Jet.”

In addition to the DVD, DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games will be available via multiple digital streams, including DCSuperHeroGirls.com, the DCSHG App, the series’ YouTube Channel and Instagram, as well as through a “global licensing and merchandising program.”
