After recent setbacks regarding the long-awaited film The Batman, we finally get ourselves a production start date: 2018. After Ben Affleck steeped down as director and pulled in Matt Reeves, not to mention some script rewrites and rumors the film wasn’t going to be made, we thought we were never going to see the film we’ve been begging for since its announcement.

Twitter lit up from a DC insider and Variety reporter revealed some juicy info from personal sources. Justin Kroll tweeted that he’s heard Reeves is slated to continue production on War for the Planet of the Apes until June, which means production for The Batman won’t start until 2018. Kroll also tweeted that “any casting rumors you hear are likely BS” because Reeves won’t have time to meet with any actors/actresses until July. With that said, at least we know Ben is reprising his role as the Dark Knight and Joe Manganiello is starring as Deathstroke.

Manganiello also stated that he’s optimistic about the film’s progress saying:

They have big plans for this movie. Whether or not we start exactly on that date or in June, whatever it is, it doesn’t matter. Here’s the thing: the creative process needs to be respected and no one involved in this film wants to make anything less than an unbelievable film, a legendary film. the movie will start shooting whenever those piece are in place and we know this is gonna be something that we’re proud of. What we’re not gonna do is be backed into a start date, scrambling to get something off the ground just to get it off the ground. Everyone involved wants to make this the best film possible, so that’s really what it’s about…Rest assured we’re gonna do this thing right.”

Well said Joe, well said.
