Is Gwen Stacy box office poison for DC Comics?

DC Comics News reporter Danny Saab told you recently that actress Jessica Chastain, whose films include The Help, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Zookeeper’s Wife, is interested in playing DC villainess Poison Ivy in the upcoming movie Gotham City Sirens. Now comes word that Bryce Dallas Howard, who played Gwen Stacy in the 2007’s Spider-Man 3, also is lobbying for the role.

Fast-tracked in the wake of Suicide Squad‘s success, and to fill a relase-date hole created by hedging over the next solo Batman movie, Gotham City Sirens has already entered pre-production, with a story by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider, Sherlock Holmes 3) and David Ayer (Suicide Squad, Fury) due to direct. It reportedly will feature Margot Robbie‘s reprising her role as Harley Quinn in a team-up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy to take down mob boss Black Mask.

In regards to the Poison Ivy role, Danny tells us,

“. . . the internet rumor mill was in full force with Transformers star Megan Fox being the front runner for the role,” and that, “Mr. Robot actress Steph Corneliussen expressed interest, but she may not be a big enough star to fill the part. As for the fans, many have suggested Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) to fill the role.”

Comicbook.com has not thrown Howard into the mix, noting that when a fan asked on Twitter if she’d ever be interested in playing playing the role, Howard responded with a GIF of Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy in the the 1997 big-budget groaner Batman and Robin.

Howard didn’t say, yes, but did allow of the Poison Ivy character, “She’s pretty badass.”

So, what do you think, DC fans? Who should get cast as Poison Ivy? Howard? One of the other actress listed above? Someone else entirely? And, for that matter, who should play Catwoman and Black Mask?
