Patty Jenkins Says Shared Universes Not Always A Good Thing

Hot on the heels of her recent success at the box office, Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins has stated that she doesn’t think it’s always a good idea for studios to try and create shared cinematic universes.

Wonder Woman, staring Gal Gadot, features the first female led Superhero movie has been met with widespread critical acclaim and is currently one of the highest rated comic books movies of all time on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as being a record breaker at the box office.

During a recent Reddit AMA, Jenkins spoke about her time working on Wonder Woman which would be a part of an already established cinematic universe and her thoughts on the current trend of studios creating shared universes:

“I would say I have very mixed feelings about that. There’s a version of every kind of film that I celebrate, but there seems there’s also a tendency to make a mess if there’s too much going on – so it’s not something I think is always a great idea.”

It comes as no surprise following the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that other studios would attempt to establish their own shared universes with several projects currently in the works.

Coincidently, Jenkins’ comments come on the same weekend that the first installment of Universal’s “Dark Universe”, The Mummy, hits cinemas.
