In an interview with New Trailer Buzz, director Matt Reeves was being asked about his most recent project, War For The Planet Of The Apes, when eventually the topic turned to his next project, The Batman. Although filming has yet to begin for the movie, Reeves seemed very open to talk about the upcoming movie and reveal more about his approach to the film.

Reeves talked about his love for both Batman and the Planet of the Apes franchises growing up as a child and how excited he is to have the opportunity to work on both. The director revealed some observations he had made on the two main characters of the franchises. He noted that he really enjoys how both Batman and Caesar (from Planet Of The Apes) are both really tortured characters that are trying to do good in a seemingly imperfect and “corrupt” world.

One of the really interesting facets of Reeves’ approach is his focus on the detective aspects of the character. The director really wants audiences to identify with Batman and really understand why he does what he does. In the interview, Reeves stated:

“[That] there’s a chance to do an almost noir driven, detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very very powerful way, that will hopefully connect you to what’s going on inside of his head,”

The Dark Knight truly is many things to many people and there are a number of Batman fans who love the detective aspects of the character. As much as we love to see Batman beat the pulp out of the criminal underground, watching him take down bad guys with his intelligence and analytical prowess at a crime scene is something we love to see as well.
