After the giving directing duties to David Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) and casting Zachary Levi(Chuck, Thor) in the titular role of Shazam and Asher Angel ( Andi Mack) as Billy Batson, it looks like the DCEU film is adding another key role in the film. It has found Billy Batson’s best friend, Freddy Freeman, in Jack Dylan Grazer, fresh off the It movie and recently cancelled Me, Myself and I TV show.
In the comics, Freddy was Billy’s only friend who knows all about his powers and who has some wild exploits, and eventually becomes Shazam’s sidekick and a junior superhero in his own right. It remains to be seen how much they will take from Shazam’s extensive canon, but comic book fans, and some of us who can remember his cartoon, cannot wait to see how he looks on the silver screen.
