The CW has recently revealed its Fall 2018 schedule, which includes six nights and 12 hours of original programming in total. Though the network has been airing two original TV shows every weeknight, it was announced back in February that The CW will be expanding its lineup to Sunday nights for the 2018-19 season. The station will be airing no less than five DC superhero TV shows at once starting in October, along with new genre TV series such as the Charmed reboot, as a result.
Joining the shows returning to The CW in the fall are the four Arrowverse TV series (Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl), along with the standalone DC superhero show Black Lightning and moody Archie Comics TV adaptation Riverdale. Supernatural will also be returning for its fourteenth season, along with cult favorite Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. However, Arrow and Supergirl will end up airing on different nights than they have in the past.
Supergirl will air on Sunday nights in the 8-9 pm slot beginning this fall, with Charmed airing immediately after.
While speaking to the press at The CW’s 2018 Upfronts presentation, network president Mark Pedowitz confirmed that this was an intentional move on their part:
“We wanted to have an established show on Sunday night. We wanted name value with ‘Charmed,’ on there. We felt that it was two shows that empowered women and were making a statement that we were not kidding, we were not going to phone it in on Sunday nights – That we were going to compete.”
Meanwhile, Arrow will be paired with Legends of Tomorrow on Monday nights starting in the fall. The Flash and Black Lightning are staying put in their Tuesday night slots next season, as are Supernatural and Dynasty in their Thursday and Friday spots. Riverdale won’t be moving from Wednesday nights either, though the teen drama will be followed by freshman high school football drama All American in the 9-10 pm slot. Similarly, Thursday nights on The CW will have their theme thanks to the pairing of Supernatural and the latest Vampire Diaries spinoff series, Legacies.
The CW has further announced that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will remain on Friday nights in the fall, with telenovela-inspired Jane the Virgin and Vertigo comic book adaptation iZombie set to return midseason. All three comedies are critical favorites with loyal audiences, but have long been one of the network’s lowest-rated offerings. The CW is as loyal to its TV shows as its viewers are and will be providing each of them with one last season, in order to give them a proper sendoff.
