We may never see the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, but thanks to social media, the director is giving fans a glimpse at what he had planned. Following a recent post, Snyder released an ominous image of Darkseid with a caption that reads, “A bell can’t be unrung.”

The caption refers to a quote from Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which many fans thought foreshadowed the arrival of Darkseid. Instead, fans were treated to Steppenwolf in Justice League.

The image itself looks like an ancient mural, one that points to Darkseid’s existence and the dark history that surrounds the character. But where is the image from?

After some digging, it looks to be from the Shrine of the Amazons, which recent pictures have shown to depict an ancient war following an invasion by Desaad and Steppenwolf. The pictures also show off the unity between the Amazons, Atlanteans, and Tribes of Men, who come together to fight back the invasion.

In Justice League, we see all of this unfold when Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) gives Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) a history lesson about Steppenwolf and the Mother Boxes. What we don’t see, is a glimpse of Darkseid. But according to the latest image from Snyder, the villain may have been in Justice League—or at least referenced.

Deep into Justice League’s production, Snyder was replaced with Avengers director Joss Whedon, with much of Snyder’s vision reportedly edited out of the final cut. Fans have recently rallied in support of Snyder to see his cut of the movie, but it looks like the best we’ll get is posts on social media.
