J.K. Simmons ‘Optimistic’ About Commissioner Gordon’s Return

With all of the rumors swirling around the upcoming DCEU films — including a possible Batman solo story — one casting question is whether J.K. Simmons will reprise his role of Commissioner Gordon from Justice League.

Simmons recently sat down with Collider to discuss his new movie, The Front Runner. When the topic turned to Gordon, Simmons had this to say:

“Nothing has changed. There are conversations going on, that I’m not going to make public. As far as I know, there’s no opportunity, in the immediate future, for me to do more Commissioner Gordon, but I continue to be optimistic that it will happen again.”

Given what we know now, the most likely place for Gordon to pop up next would be in Birds of Prey — but fans of comics’ favorite trench coat-wearing policeman will have to be optimistic as well.

While I have experience in a variety of creative writing disciplines, comics have always been my first love. From alternating Batman & Green Lantern as childhood Halloween costumes, to getting punched in my adolescent heart by Love & Rockets, to playing sidekick to the legendary Len Wein, I feel like the medium and the characters are part of my DNA.
