Sleeper, the popular Vertigo series by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, is headed for the big screen. More important, it now has two huge Hollywood names attached to the project, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The duo, whose previous collaboration led to the Oscar Award-winning film Good Will Hunting, are part of a trio of producers hired by Warner Bros. to make the Sleeper movie a reality.
Thus far, the production team for the film also includes producer Jennifer Todd and screenwriters Sean Ryan and David Weiner. Damon and Affleck have been brought in by the studio to get the project off the ground, a place where it has been sitting since 2008. Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was originally attached to the project, but failed to bring it to fruition. Now it’s Damon and Affleck’s turn.
No actors or directors have been connected with the film based upon the noir adventures of Holden Carver, a man who spontaneously acquires the ability to pass pain onto others.
Screenwriter Sean Ryan is best known for his work on the television show The Shield and David Weiner for his work with Ryan on the show Last Resort and the 2011 play Extraordinary Chambers.
