End of the Line – The Fate of Nightwing Comics

When the new 52 started, Nightwing was part of the first wave. The original Robin who Kyle Higgins brought to fans everywhere, giving this character, who became a hero in his own right, his own comic series. However, a few months ago, DC Comics announced that issue 30 would be the final issue.

Through my mom via the comic shop, I discovered this sad news. Granted, even though I’m not in love with the Flying Grayson myself (my personal favorite being Tim Drake), I still find boy scout very admirable. Nightwing was the first Robin, he set the standards and throughout all the mess that has happened with the Bat family throughout the ages, Nightwing has always been the character who opens up his heart to understanding. He forgives and seeks to understand. In fact, he is one of the characters who understands Bruce the most, second to Alfred. Simply put, he’s the glue that holds them all together.

Nightwing is one of those characters who rises to the occasion, a prime example being his time as Batman, taking on the cowl while Bruce was spinning forward through time after the “Final Crises” story line. During his time as the bat he proved to not only being a better hero than Bruce (an admission I can’t believe I’m making) but also a better father figure (Bruce could have done better).

With all of that under his belt, it’s no wonder Nightwing is a fan favorite hero. Additionally, after the death of Damien Wayne, there really was no cause to worry about the fate of this boy scout.

Forever Evil has altered that.

In the wake of Forever Evil, the Crime Syndicate, not only kidnapped him, but also revealed his identity to the world, making fans a little fearful, causing speculations of his death to rise. And after Forever Evil #6, some people (like my mom) are freaking out. Heck, even I’m freaking here. In Nightwing #29, the narrative of the issue focuses on Nightwing as he has all those nostalgic and “what-if” moments, causing readers wonder what’s going to happen, calling into question his mortality. Honestly, hasn’t Bruce gone through enough?

I have my own theories that he is going to go to Earth-3 or Earth-2 with Owlman and become Flamebird because let’s face it, that Talon costume he had with the red and bird like accents was amazing and seeing him work with Owlman, or against him, would be interesting. Hopefully Lex and Bruce will save him. However, even if they do, that doesn’t change the fact that his.identity has been exposed, leaving him with little reason to stay on Earth 1.

No one knows what the final fate of Nightwing is going to be but I’m sure fans are hoping that he’s not going to die – or stay dead.

The Final issue of Nightwing, which will be written by James Tynion IV, is set to be released on May 28th of this year and will be a special 40 page issue. The synopsis provided by the DC comics website reads as follows:

“The Bat Family is forced to face the brutal aftermath of FOREVER EVIL, but after everything they’ve been through, can the stand together?”

Everyone just needs to have their memory wiped – where’s Max Lord when you need him?
