Jordan Calloway will be returning for another season of Black Lightning as DC supervillain Painkiller.
Salim Akil, a producer for the show, made the announcement during the Black Lightning Comic-Con panel.
Calloway guest starred as Kahlil Payne during season one and was used more as a plot device than a character. Payne, a popular high school all-American track star was bound for greatness until a stray bullet severed his spine leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, dashing any Olympic dreams. Black Lightning’s archnemesis Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) was made aware of the boy and offered a solution in the form of cybernetic legs and muscular enhancements, transforming him into the living weapon Painkiller. The supervillain uses his new powers such as, superhuman speed and strength, an aesthetic he secretes from his body that can be transferred to darts to create temporary paralysis to victims, to serve his new boss and savior. Regret however quickly begins to seep into the newly created villain who misses his old life and the friends he made along the way including his teenage love, Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain).
Akil said, “I’m thrilled to have Jordan upped as a series regular. He was a great asset to our show in the role of Khalil/Painkiller during season one, and now that he has evolved into Painkiller, I can’t wait for you all to see him in season two.”
Black Lightning returns for season two on Tuesday, October 9, at 9/8c on The CW. Based on the DC characters, the series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil and Sarah Schechter. Black Lightning is produced by Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
