By now, most of fandom has heard the rumor that Michael Keaton may be returning as Batman for the upcoming Flash feature film, scheduled for a 2022 release. Now it’s time to go further down the rumor rabbit hole. According to the site DCEUMythic, if the Keaton talks don’t work out we might see another familiar Bat-face: Christian Bale.
The idea of finding an older, established Batman for the film — which may or may not be an adaptation of Flashpoint — apparently doesn’t include Ben Affleck, who has said he’s leaving his superhero days in the past. Since the Bale Dark Knight films took place in a world with no other superheroes, it’s unclear how he would be worked into the wider DCEU if this turns out to be accurate.
Meanwhile, the Robert Pattinson-starring, Matt Reeves-directed The Batman apparently exists in a different continuity (or parallel Earth) from any of this.
Remember, the Bale talk (and even the Keaton talk technically at this point) is all rumor.
The Flash stars Ezra Miller in the title role, and will be directed by Andy Muschietti from a script by Christina Hodson. Current plans are for the movie to be in theaters June 3, 2022.
