Summary

Investigating John Irons’ tech-advanced RV leads to disastrous consequences for Lois and Johnathan. Meanwhile, Superman and Sam Lane interrogate John Irons to find out more about his past.

Positives

Superman & Lois 1×08 starts off with Lois talking to an unknown person. We later find out that this person is Lois’ therapist Dr. Wiles. Lois tells Dr. Wiles that she made a tragic mistake today–and it’s too difficult to come back from. That mistake was yelling at her son Johnathan in an anger. It wasn’t so much as Lois’ anger that was the issue, but rather the words she used. Even Clark was taken back for a minute, and advised Lois to go talk to someone for help. I actually enjoyed seeing Lois like this for once. Everyone has moments where they feel overwhelmed, and Lois isn’t the exception. This moment all came from Johnathan investigating John Henry Irons’ RV alone. Earlier during the day, Lois and Johnathan investigated the RV and made some startling revelations. One particular reveal that sticks out is that on this alternate Earth John and Lois are married and share a child named Natalie. Later it is revealed that on prime Earth Lois was pregnant again not too soon after the twins were born. However she miscarried. The revelation of her “other” family on an alternate Earth, the miscarriage, and the almost death of Johnathan was a lot to take in for a woman who’s usually so strong in herself.

Negatives

This episode had no negatives from me. Superman and General Lane spent time interrogating John Henry Irons. Some of it was spent asking genuine questions. While some of it was spent trying to convince John Henry Irons that Superman of prime Earth wasn’t a threat. Although John Henry Irons saves Superman’s life in this episode, he’s trying to kill him mere seconds after. Morgan Edge is the real threat here, and I believe hope that John Henry Irons realizes this and cooperates with General Lane and Superman soon. It’s obvious all three men have the same goal–it’s just that everyone’s methods and beliefs are so different.

Verdict

Superman & Lois 1×08 was a great episode and I’m looking forward to what Morgan Edge has planned next. Attempting to capture John Henry Irons at the end of episode leads Superman to a confrontation with a Kryptonian soldier. Edge has more on the way and I’m quite sure that Superman might see some Smallville faces among their ranks!
