Summary
My Adventures With Superman 2×09 – Jimmy and Kara race back to Metropolis to stop Brainiac’s invasion of Earth; Lois tries to free Clark from Brainiac’s control, only to lose herself in an alternate reality where Superman never left Krypton.
Positives
This episode really shows how tremendous the bond between Lois and Clark really is. Using the black mercy technology, Lois infiltrates Superman’s mind, which is apparently being held captive by Brainiac. Lois is apparently in a simulation of Krypton, with Kal-El being raised by his otherworldly parents, Jor-El and Lara. Jor-El, or at least a simulation of him, sees Lois as a threat to the program and seeks to eliminate her. This episode gives you some The Matrix-type vibes, as Lois is seen as a type of virus to the programming. Eventually, she’s able to break Clark free, and the two are able to end the program and stop Brainiac from taking over Superman’s mind permanently.
Jimmy and Kara help out on the ground by taking on Brainiac and his forces, while Amanda Waller, along with Lex Luthor’s drones, do the same. At first, it seems that the citizens of Metropolis have come together in combined concert and that it’s successful, but Brainiac suddenly changes tactics.
Negatives
Once again, I have no complaints about this episode. This show is fantastic!
Verdict
Overall, My Adventures With Superman 2×09 seems to be a good start to a season finale. Superman is finally freed of Brainiac’s control and is ready to take on the villain. Waller and her troops are disabled, but I’m sure she has another plan in play. Thanks to the staff of the Daily Planet, Jimmy and Lois find themselves saved, and it didn’t feel forced how it was done. Great job by the writers to give even the supporting characters a real purpose in this episode without it feeling crowded or pointless. I can’t wait to see how the finale wraps up the season.
