My love of comics started at the age of 5, when visions of mythic beings fought their way across my TV screen. Batman '66, Super Friends, Wonder Woman, and Superman '78 filled my early childhood with imagination and adventure. Soon enough I found the spinner rack! Batman, Justice League and DC's Who's Who kept me coming back for more. I've seen the death of hope, justice broken, a light extinguished, and a universe torn! A kingdom come, the lightning return, a triumph of evil and a multiverse reborn!

The “Shazam” action figure looks great! I like the original-style costume. One concern though: I know that Marvel owns the trademark of the name of the original hero, Captain Marvel, so only they can put it on the cover of a comic book of box of a toy or title of a movie (though they can put it in the pages of a comic book or the dialogue of a movie or TV show). However…

In the past this has been worked around by never actually saying the name of the hero, but rather referring to him as “The /World’s Mightiest Mortal” or some other grammatical maneuvering that avoids saying the name outright.

I know that in the New 52 the hero published under that title is named “Shazam,” but his costume and powers are different, and there are enough differences in his story that I am willing to accept that this is a different character in a different universe.

But in the current DC Multiverse it has been established that there is a “Captain Marvel,” much like this action figure, on “Earth-5” (“Thunderworld,” the “Gotham by Gaslight” crossover, and the “Scooby Doo” crossover, for instance).

So my question is this: Is this action figure suppose to be of the Earth-5 character or the original character, either of which should be called “Captain Marvel” (in which case not actually coming out and saying his name oi this promotional description on this website is excusable, but calling him “Shazam” is incorrect), or has DC officially ret-conned the hero’s name to match the trademark, “Shazam!” (which would be very disheartening)?
