Spoiler alert! Tuesday night sparks flew on 4chan’s /co/ comics community when a post dropped claiming that the currently planned to end run of Birds of Prey will be shortly relaunched later this year with a new #1 under the pens of Brendan Fletcher and Cameron Stewart with art duties supposedly split by Stewart himself and Joe Quinones. Cool right? Well, if true it gets even better.
The posted rumor stated that the new book will feature Kate Kane Batwoman at the helm rather than Barbara Gordon Batgirl, and Harper Row as Bluebird and ex-Batgirls Stephanie Brown and a returned Cassandra Cain will be her supposed agents (poor Bette). The supposed leak, which was short and ~mysterious~ said an announcement will be coming on Thurs, 7/10. The post and subsequent thread have since been deleted.
Leaks and rumors should be taken with a grain of salt; especially from /co/, but the leak for a BOP relaunch has come rather coincidentally as Stewart has been tweeting about working on the second issue of an, as of yet, unannounced book (that he seems ecstatic about) that he later said will be officially announced on Thurs. There are additionally some alleged tweeting or some form of correspondence between Dan Didio and a fan that also have hinted that Cassandra Cain was supposed to have been announced to be returning this past June, but was slightly delayed. Being only July 9th as of writing, that does not sound too off.
The coincidences there gave a bit of legitimacy to the subsequent discussion as they pieced together possible clues, however most have seemed to sweep the rumor under the rug, as the rumor has not caught on at other venues such as tumblr. However yesterday afternoon Stewart tweeted;
People responded and he confirmed that tweet was meant for /co/specifically.
And he then tweeted
That was later deleted. (Hmmmm)
If true the book will join alongside new ancillary (and somewhat experimental) Batfamily books Arkham Manor, Gotham Academy & ( I guess to a lesser degree) Klarion, the latter two visibly geared towards teenagers in particular.
What do you think? Ready for Cass Cain to possibly be back?
