The synopsis for Arrow‘s fourth episode of the season, “The Magician,” has been released. Malcolm Merlyn returns to Starling, and Matt Nable debuts as Ra’s al Ghul.
Sara Lance’s death in Arrow‘s season 3 premiere came as a shock. The first half of the season will deal with the circumstances of Sara’s death, mainly, who killed Sara and what was Sara doing in Starling at the start of the season, and also how her death ultimately affects the characters on the show. One of the characters affected by Sara’s death is, of course, Heir to the Demon, Nyssa al Ghul.
Nyssa returns to Starling City, and when she does, “the al Ghul will have a lot on her plate,” showrunner Marc Guggenheim teased. “Her finding out that Sara’s dead is going to be a big deal. With Sara’s death, Nyssa becomes so much more important. One thing that Sara did was provide us with a cool, ass-kicking female character on the show, and Nyssa definitely fits that bill quite well.”
Also returning to Starling City is none other than Malcolm Merlyn himself, who to Oliver’s surprise and disdain, is alive and possibly even had a hand in Sara’s death. The Arrow and Nyssa join forces for the team-up fans have been waiting for, but as to why Oliver and Nyssa would suspect Merlyn, fans will just have to wait and see.
Nyssa isn’t the only member of the League of Assassins, or the only member of the al Ghul family to make an appearance. What’s that saying? Speak of the devil and he shall appear, or in this case, The Demon’s Head. Leader of the League of Assassins finally makes his highly anticipated appearance October 29 after being name-dropped throughout Arrow‘s second season.
“The Magician” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LV) (HDTV)
NYSSA RETURNS TO STARLING CITY, RA’S AL GHUL MAKES HIS ENTRANCE — A furious Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law) confronts Oliver (Stephen Amell) about Sara. When Oliver learns Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) is alive, he suspects Merlyn killed Sara. Oliver and Nyssa join forces and go after the Dark Archer, intent on bringing Sara’s killer to justice. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) keeps her distance from Nyssa, as she blames her sister’s death on her involvement with the League of Assassins. Meanwhile, Oliver and Roy (Colton Haynes) work on repairing their respective relationships with Thea (Willa Holland), who has returned home. Nyssa discusses Oliver with her father, Ra’s al Ghul (guest star Matt Nable). John Behring directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Marc Guggenheim (#304). Original airdate 10/29/2014.
Arrow airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
