Jared Leto may be jumping ship over to DC Comics. Leto was rumored to be up for the role of Marvel’s Doctor Strange, but according to TheWrap, Leto is considering a role in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and it’s pretty monumental. What role is the 30 Seconds to Mar’s rockstar considering? None other than the Clown Prince of crime himself, The Joker.
A high number of  high profile celebrities  have been linked to the movie, including Tom Hardy, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie. Jesse Eisenberg is also reportedly reprising his role as Lex Luthor from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice inSuicide Squad. The Wrap also claimed that Ryan Gosling was the first actor up for the role of The Joker, but wouldn’t sign the multiple picture contract.
If the rumor is accurate, then Leto would be the first actor to play The Joker on the silver screen since Heath Ledger’s iconic performance, garnering a posthumous Oscar for playing the role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Can you imagine anyone donning the purple and green other than Ledger? What will Leto’s take on the character be?
Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on August 5, 2016, and will be directed by David Ayer and produced by Charles Roven.
