Remember that Batman Unlimited promo art that garnered a lot of attention at a licensing expo last year? It certainly triggered much speculation and today we can finally confirm what it was all about. On May 12, Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts will arrive on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD, with a sequel to follow later this year. It will follow Batman, The Flash, Red Robin, Green Arrow, and Nightwing as they do battle with The Penguin and cyber animals. Interesting lineup for that team, huh?

Per Variety: “In addition, WB will also produce 22 two-minute shorts around the ‘Batman Unlimited’ toys, making them available for free on a variety of digital platforms, while a companion app also will provide young fans with access to content.”

In addition to the above, 15 three minute animated shorts will be produced based on Fisher-Price Imaginext “DC Super Friends” figures. These will also roll out in the spring in the same manner the Batman Unlimited shorts will. From the logo we can discern the featured heroes will be Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg.

“We are thrilled to be working with our Warner Bros., Mattel and Fisher-Price colleagues to create new Batman and DC Super Friends kids’ content,” said DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson. “These new animated projects will offer all new Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman adventures that seamlessly jump from toybox to screen.”

Expect a wave of figures based on Batman Unlimited including a new Batmobile and the all-new CybeRex robot dinosaur. As for the DC Super Friends, more figures are on the way including a Joker Laff Factory, new Batcave, and books. Rubie’s Costumes and Thinkway are also expected to get in on the action.

Stay tuned to DCN for voice cast details and much more. I don’t know about you, but if it’s Batman, I’m in.
