Warner Bros. announced recently on an official press release, that writer Rob Schrab (known for his work as director in Parks and Recreation, Community, and Workaholics) will be directing The LEGO Movie sequel. This is Schrab’s feature film directorial debut.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, both writers on The LEGO Movie sequel, stated:
“We are so excited to collaborate with Rob. He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!’”
The Lego Movie sequel was planned for a 2017 release, however due to the popularity of Batman in The LEGO Movie, an spin-off film was scheduled instead.
Few days later however, Warner Bros. announced The LEGO Movie 2 for 2018. On October 25, 2014, it was reported that Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be writing said sequel. According to the announcement, the sequel will take place four years after the events of the first film.
