CBS has struck a deal with Warner Bros. TV to do an early order of the superhero drama Supergirl. As part of their agreement with Warner, CBS had to commit to an early deadline to make a decision on the pilot.
The series stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, a young lady sent to Earth as a child before the destruction of Krypton. She has kept a low profile while on our planet. But at age 24, she decides follow in the footsteps of her cousin, Superman, to become a superhero.
Supergirl also stars Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw. The series comes from writer/executive producers Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti (No Ordinary Family) with Berlanti’s Arrow and Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg also on board. Supergirl is a product of Berlanti Productions, with Sarah Schechter also exec producing.
This series will help build an already dominate television presence from DC Comics. Supergirl will join Arrow, The Flash and iZombie (The CW) along with Gotham (FOX), and fellow new series DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow. The fate of the comic book based series Constantine (NBC) remains to be seen.
