From Fish Mooney to Vixen, Jada Pinkett Smith is ready to take on another DC character.
During the first season of the show Gotham, Smith took on the challenge of portraying a completely brand new villain in the Batman universe. Fish Mooney was a mob underboss and nightclub owner who continuously caused problems for Jim Gordon and Penguin. This character was made specifically for the TV series and grew into a great foil for both Jim and Oswald. But now Smith wants to branch out further into the DC universe.
During the press tour for Magic Mike XXL, she spoke with MTV UK about the idea of pursuing more live-action comic book adaptations.
There’s a character that I love in the DC World, her name is Vixen. Probably haven’t heard much of her. She’s kind of in that Suicide Squad world as well. I love Vixen. If there was any character… I would love to play her. I’m going to have to put my little word in with the director: ‘Vixen for Suicide Squad 2.’
Jada already has a link to the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, with her husband, Will Smith, playing the first big-screen version of Floyd Lawton a.k.a. Deadshot.
The character of Vixen was first introduced in 1981 in Action Comics #521, and was notably featured on the animated series Justice League Unlimited, voiced by Gina Torres (Firefly). Vixen began her life as Mari Jiwe McCabe and grew up in a small African village. Because of a very special totem that has been passed down through generations in her family, she has the superpower to mimic the ability of any animal on Earth. She did eventually join up with the Suicide Squad, so adding her to a future sequel wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility.
Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters on August 5, 2016 and will star Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Capt. Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
