Today at the ComicsPRO retailer event in Portland, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns announced the line-up and changes for the “Rebirth” initiative.
Johns sites his Flash Rebirth and Green Lantern Rebirth as a source of inspiration, both titles reintroduced Barry Allen and Hal Jordan back into an already established DCU.  He also talked about “Legacy” something that has been severely lacking in the New52/DCYOU universes.  Johns is no stranger to legacy characters with his works on Star and S.T.R.I.P.E., Justice Society of America, and The Flash.
DC will renew their “hold the line at $2.99” promise, as all titles will have the $2.99 price point. This is a welcome change as comicbook prices have been creeping to $3.99. Â There will be 32 titles in all with a little more than half shipping bi-monthly. DC will produce 23 “Rebirth” one shots ahead of the relaunch. After which all titles will start with renumbered issues starting with #1. With the exception of their longest running titles, Action Comics and Detective Comics, which revert to their original numbering at #957 and #934, respectively.
DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio stated:
At DC we believe in superheroes, and what makes them great, we also believe in the direct market and the core comics fan. ‘Rebirth’ is designed to bring back the best of DC’s past, embrace the stories we currently love and move the entire epic universe into the future. We are returning to the essence of the DCU. With ‘Rebirth’ we are putting the highest priority on the direct market and we will continue to create and cultivate new opportunities for retailers to thrive and prosper, grow readers, fans and customers.
While the titles were revealed today, the creative teams were not. You will have to wait until March 26 at WonderCon in Anaheim, California for DC to release this information. However DCN has learned that Tom King has signed an exclusive contract with DC. Â Expect more exclusive reveals to come in the near future as DC is looking to sign more exclusive creator contracts.
