In a series of tweets released earlier today, Mark Hamill gave fans their very first look at the upcoming DC Universe animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke.

Batman: The Killing Joke is a story written by Alan Moore back in 1988 which provides an origin story for the Batman’s archnemesis, The Joker  The story is loosely adapted from the 1951 story arc “The Man Behind the Red Hood!” and takes place over two timelines, depicting The Joker as he attempts to drive Jim Gordon insane and Batman’s desperate attempt to stop him.

News first broke about this film back at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, when Bruce Timm announced that an animated adaptation was in development and was slated for release in 2016.  Sam Liu has been brought on to direct and Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy will reprise their iconic roles from Batman: The Animated Series.  They will be joined by the very talented Tara Strong (who voiced Harley Quinn in the Batman: Arkham game series), who will also be reprising her role as Barbara Gordon from Batman: The Animated Series.

While a release date has yet to be announced, Batman: The Killing Joke will make its world premiere this summer at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.  The film will arrive in stores later this summer.
