Production on Wonder Woman 2, directed by Patty Jenkins, will begin filming in June 2018 and will be set in the 1980s according to the synopsis.  The DC Cinematic Universe officially launched last year with the follow-up to Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, which introduced Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, who starred in her own film earlier this year.

Many say that this is the first critically-acclaimed film of the DC Cinematic Universe, while its predecessors have caused a lot of controversy as to how successful they really were.  The is no disputing Wonder Woman was a box-office hit, however, as it earned $821 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing origin story.  It stands to reason why Warner Bros. would order a sequel so quickly, with Gal Gadot returning as Wonder Woman, and Patty Jenkins returning as director.

Wonder Woman 2 is schedule for a December 2019 release and should have no problem making that target as it is scheduled to begin production in June 2018.  It has also been confirmed that the film will be set in the 1980s during the Cold War era.  It is unusual that Warner Bros. remains stubborn on the December 2019 release date, as it is scheduled to debut only a week before Star Wars: Episode IX.  It seems like Wonder Woman 2 may have some competition on its hands.
