In the never ending on-again-off-again news about whether or not Ben Affleck will play Batman again, the most current and reliable stance is, he will put on the cowl one final time. It is believed he will play Batman for the upcoming Flashpoint film, which for anyone who has read the story knows this could potentially mean he wouldn’t be in the film for even 10% of it. Perhaps even less if they choose to end the film with a new actor portraying Batman after time gets changed.
But even if that is the case, it might not be the end of Batman for Affleck. He might not be playing Batman in the upcoming trilogy from Matt Reeves, but in a recent interview, Affleck still expressed his interest in directing a Batman film.
Affleck said:
For me, it’s interesting, and I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script.
And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursuing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this [Justice League] movie.
Whether or not he will ever get the chance remains to be seen considering the Reeves trilogy could take up another 6-10 years. But who’s to say Reeves won’t just lay the groundwork for the trilogy and let other directors direct the sequels?
