Warner Bros. announces that Michael DeLuca will be producing Suicide Squad 2 alongside fellow producer Charles Roven. The move reveals Warner Bros. intent to have one individual focus on one movie rather than have one individual in charge of a series or group of movies.
A few days ago, DCN reported about the new head of DC Films Walter Hamada, who will be working alongside Geoff Johns in the immediate future to produce the next batch of DCEU films. That seismic shift in leadership at DC Films signals the new direction that the studio will be taking in terms of streamlining the production of movies.
Following that announcement, we now have a better idea of the production team surrounding Suicide Squad 2, who’s predecessor garnered $745 million dollars worldwide. The production team for the movie will now feature Michael DeLuca as one of its producer.
Michael DeLuca’s works include a series of Oscar-nominated films such as The Social Network, Moneyball, and Captain Phillips. He also has experience in running more well known franchises such as the Fifty Shades of Grey series of movies.
Producer Charles Roven was already attached to produce Suicide Squad 2 with Gavin O’Connor set to write the script as well as taking over directing duties on the film. It is being reported that Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto will be returning in their roles of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and Joker respectively for the sequel.
Squad 2 is one of the movies that Warner Bros. is working on diligently in order to improve the financial success yet critical panned film that was the first film. This movie, alongside Shazam, is among the top priorities for Warner Bros and the stumbling DCEU.
