Titans expanded its roster recently by casting April Bowlby as the superhero Elasti-Girl. DC has spent many years trying to develop a live-action Teen Titans show, and it’s finally happening. The show will help launch DC’s upcoming streaming service. We have recently learned that The Doom Patrol are coming to Titans and Elasti-Girl will join their ranks.
We still do not know what role The Doom Patrol will play in the ongoing story of Robin (Brendon Thwaites) and his own group of heroes. Writer Geoff Johns has confirmed they’ll debut in episode 5, which will bear the team’s name. It’s clear that the Titans themselves will barely be established before new heroes arrive.
Bowlby’s character will be Rita Farr, whose exposure to a volcanic gas gives her size-changing abilities that allow her to stretch and grow. Bowlby will first appear as Farr in “The Doom Patrol” and will possibly recur after that.
Elasti-Girl first appeared in 1963’s My Greatest Adventure #80, which saw her transform from an aspiring actor to a super-powered being. She’d go on to use her abilities alongside the original Doom Patrol line-up, including the team’s leader The Chief. With both Elasti-Girl and The Chief confirmed for Titans, it’s safe to assume other classic members of the group will be cast soon.
There might be a chance that Titans will have an even bigger budget than The CW shows because of being on DC’s new streaming service. Across movies and TV, DC has brought plenty of heroes and villains from the page to the screen. Titans, however, is shaping up to be akin to Justice League Unlimited, given just how many DC characters will be appearing on the series.
Titans premieres later this year on DC’s streaming service.
