DECU fans…the wait is over. Matt Reeves has turned in the first part of his new script for the upcoming film, The Batman. The interesting thing about Reeves’ script is that it focuses on a young Batman instead of the one we have been introduced to in movies like Batman v Superman and Justice League. This could mean that the rumors have been true all along and that Ben Affleck is indeed out as Bruce Wayne.
There is no doubt that the cloud of uncertainty about The Batman has been present for a while now with Ben Affleck out as the roles of director, writer, producer, and star of the film. Affleck dropping out paved the way for Reeve’s to take over.
Ben Affleck has responded to the rumors of his exit from the role of Batman many times by reassuring DC fans that he is committed to the role and has said numerous times that it’s the role of a lifetime.
At SDCC, Affleck addressed his exit rumors by saying:
“Batman is the coolest f*cking part in any universe-DC, Marvel-it’s incredible and I”m so thrilled to do it…I know there’s this misconception that because I didn’t direct it wasn’t enthusiastic about it; it’s f*cking amazing…and with Matt Reeves doing it, it’s like I’d be a f*cking ape on the ground for Matt Reeves-nevermind being Batman! It’s incredible! So I’m really blown away and excited and it’s a great time in the DC Universe…I’m really excited to be Batman”
Months later during the promotional tour for Justice League, Affleck “flip-flopped” by saying:
“you don’t don this forever”
Over the Memorial Day Weekend, Reeves turned in the first part of his script, which is a huge step in the right direction for the solo Batman flick. Reports have circulated that The Batman will be the first of another trilogy, so the return of Affleck as Batman overall is not ruled out; he just won’t be Batman for this movie.
