In this conclusion to ‘Harley Quinn vs Apokolips’ story arch we see yet another side to Harley. That’s not to say that she doesn’t act like her crazy normal self (because she does). What I mean is that Humphries brings forth another aspect of the Harley Quinn persona that we all know and love.
I love the interaction between Harley and Petite Tina. Especially when Tina opens up to Harley, playing at the heart strings, Tina confides in Harley the way Granny Goodness used to make her feel. Harley immediately relates to Tina, and the two quickly become a duo for the ages. I hope Petite Tina stays a regular side character in the future Harley Quinn issues.
Sam Humphries and John Timms do yet another fantastic job in this issue. Timms’ artwork only adds to the craziness that is Harley on Apokolips. Humphries is a master at writing Harley, he gets everything about the character spot on. I especially love his moral dilemma phone booth. It makes for an interesting visual, as well as diverging away from the conventional angel and devil on shoulders. I mean, nothing Harley ever does is conventional, so it makes perfect sense.
The story is tied together in this final issue and wrapped up with a pretty little bow on top. It’s been a refreshing run to cleanse the pallet, but I’m ready to get back into the hectic life of Harley Quinn.
There aren’t many negatives with this issue, it’s a great finale to what has been a bizarre step into the life of Harley. My only fault with the issue would be that we didn’t get much of a backstory to Tina, aside from what was needed. I hope this changes in the future!
Overall, this issue changed my mind about the run entirely. I had previously thought it was a silly spin-off that really had no right being under the title of Harley Quinn.
That changed this issue as, come the end of the comic, I found myself thinking that there wouldn’t be anyone else more suited to ending Granny Goodness’ badness.
