After their successful pilot episodes, the CW has decided to pick up three series and forgo another. Batwoman, Nancy Drew, and Katy Keene have all been ordered for the 2019-2020 season. Jane the Novela, a spinoff of Jane the Virgin, will not move forward.
Batwoman follows Kate Kane, an “out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.” Caroline Dries is writing the project and executive producing alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, and David Nutter.
So far we don’t know much about the series but it raises a lot of questions. Will we see lover Renee Montoya? Will Batman, Robin, or Batgirl make an appearance? Will we get to see Batwoman fight any of the Rogue’s Gallery? Many fans question will the show stick true to comic cannon or take some strong liberties as Gotham did? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
Katy Keene is a spinoff of Riverdale and also a project of Berlanti’s. Katy Keene:
follows aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), who meets Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), fresh off the bus to chase her musical dreams. Their world is populated with kindred-spirit starving artists, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez – and his drag queen alter ego, Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp).
Both Batwoman and Katy Keene were expected to be picked up to series since they both hale from Berlanti Productions. Berlanti currently has seven shows on the CW alone.
