Although it’s been imperative that the Batwoman writers tell the respective stories of Kate Kane and Ryan Wilder, it’s mighty difficult to explore that world without including notorious Batman villains. So far, we’ve seen the likes of Hush, Black Mask, and Victor Zsasz introduced to the Arrowverse via this TV show, with another major baddie coming very soon.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Bridget Regan (Agent Carter, Legend of the Seeker) has been cast as Poison Ivy in a recurring role for the third season. If you were to ask me, this is a major coup for The CW, as Ivy is an A-list Batman villain.
Here’s the character description given:
“A former botany student at Gotham University, Pamela ‘was a passionate, brilliant scientist with a mind for changing the world for the better,’ according to the official character description. ‘But her plans shifted when she was experimented on by a colleague, injected with various plant toxins which turned her into the infamous Batman villain Poison Ivy. With a formidable power coursing through her veins, Pamela used her powers to do what she thought was right… even if Batman and those closest to her disagreed with her dangerous methods. Now effectively wiped off the board for years, Batwoman and the Bat Team must prepare themselves for Poison Ivy to return with a vengeance. ‘”
To be honest, I’m quite thrilled with this bit of casting. I first became a fan of Bridget Regan during her days starring on the aforementioned Legend of the Seeker. Back then, I thought she would make the perfect Wonder Woman. Even though that never materialized, I can’t deny that she’s a great fit for Poison Ivy, and I will definitely tune in for her appearances.
Batwoman returns for its third season on Wednesday, October 13 on The CW.
