DC Comics Quick Takes for the Week of May 28, 2025

Sometimes, there isn’t enough to say for a complete review, but there is still something to be said. That’s what Quick Takes is about. It would be difficult to review EVERY comic I read in a week, but I’ll always have something to say. So, here’s to something new…Quick Takes for the Week of May 28, 2025. Be sure to comment on what you’re reading and enjoying this week and check out the full reviews for the week at DC Comics News!

Superman #26

Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferreira’s art stands out immediately.  The tension between Lex and his daughter is a highlight, as well.  It’s a relied to see Lois lose the superpowers, but so little was done with it that it really brings into question why it was done other than to set up what was teased at the end of the Superwoman Special #1.  The whole Supercorp plotline was a misstep from the beginning and as it crumbles in front of Superman it’s even more obvious what a bad idea it was. Continuing to see it come apart reaffirms this.  The longer it takes, the longer it will drag the series down.  Better to just end it quickly and move on to something better.  The tease with the Legion of Super-Heroes is certainly the strongest plotline in play, even if the whole idea of Darkseid’s universe is more than underwhelming.  Where was any Legion this issue?  Joshua Williamson has a lot going on and I don’t think he can figure out what he should focus on and what should be jettisoned.

Metamorpho: The Element Man #6

Well, I think I need to go back and reread issue #1, and #2, and #3….  If this series has proved anything, it’s that DC can produce a comic that doesn’t quite take place in the main Universe with a different tone and still be solid.  This series should come back with more issues.  It has a unique tone that relies on throwback “elements” (see what I did there) and remains entertaining and is just downright fun.  It truly represents a creatively successful foray into a different genre (humor) and offers something different from the main output from the publisher.

Batman #160

Out of the gate, Batman #158 gave the impression that a reread read of the original Hush storyline would not be necessary.  However, with this issue, things aren’t quite as clear.  I’m not sure if Loeb is just throwing things in or actually referencing things from the original tale.  That said, a lot things happen in this issue and none of them really stand out as an interesting direction.  Even the end of the issue that teases multiple deaths feels a bit contrived.  The art continues to impress , with the flashbacks to Bruce as a kid being the standout moments.  How about a whole issue in this style?
