This Week’s Trip to the LCS- March 18, 2026
…and er, March 11
What’s new at the comic shop this week- March 18? As pictured above, it’s a heavy Super-week for me. Additionally, because I missed last Wednesday, I’ve got book March 18th as well as March 11th. I am happy to say that I thoroughly enjoyed all this books discussed below.
Action Comics # 1096

Mark Waid and Skylar Patridge continue to roll on with the Adventures of Superman When He Was A Boy. They maintain a focus on character both in Clark’s interactions with his friends and acquaintances in Smallville as well as showing how he is developing into a hero. It’s not just how to save people (although there’s a nice sequence like that in this issue), but also how to interact with others and figure out how to have a secret identity. For my money, this is DC Comics’ best current series.

This issue begins a new arc, but it builds nicely on what we’ve seen in previous issues. Patridge gives some great looks, as well. This is how to do great comics. Too often these days writers are only interested in the plot and don’t really have a handle on character and character development.
Superman Unlimited #11

Check dccomicsnews.com for a full review of this issue- but, suffice it to say that for my first issue of this series, Dan Slott and Lucas Meyer get my attention right away. It’s Jon Kent against his arch-enemy from the future…? They do it effectively with a solid attention to character…do I sense a theme? And, if you miss the Super-Sons you’ll want to read this. PROMISE. Check out the full review and don’t hold it against me that I accidentally posted the final page of the issue last night…after missing my trip to the LCS last week, I didn’t realize it was a book from this week. Public apology here…honest mistake.
Emperor Aquaman #15

Mart Gray says he’d prefer Aquaman to stay in the water on the Earth, there’s plenty of opportunities for stories, still. While he’s not wrong, this issue does feel like a return to form for Jeremy Adams and John Timms. There’s really nice character work here as well as a reunion. Once again, Adams has had to negotiate an event, and while this event (KO) was just flat out stupid we are through it, finally. I believe Adams has the chops to successfully take Aquaman to another level (Next Level?), but, I also find myself wishing we were just going to get more Earth based aquatic adventures.
World’s Finest #49

The issue that precedes next month’s 50th issue extravaganza is a fun finale to this current story. I think it’s better than the last issue. Sometimes the Crime Syndicate can be too much. This issue gives us a lot of insight into the characters, be they Batman, Superman or the hero-villains of Earth-3. This is a solid issue that is entertaining and a fun read.
Action Comics #242 (Facsimie Edition)

You can’t go wrong with the first appearance and introduction of Brainiac, can you? Despite having this reprint in multiple volumes, there’s something special about these facsimile editions. It’s not simply about the story, but the experience. That is both holding the single issue in your own hands and enjoying it like reading any other floppy, it does a little better at time travel than reprint volumes in this respect. Additionally, the advertisements and the extra stuff are just too interesting to skip, Space Ranger house ad included! However, the other stories in this issue, Tommy Tomorrow and Congo Bill are a whole lot of fun, too. You’re just not going to get these stories reprinted elsewhere…c’mon DC, I know you’ve got a DC Finest Congo Bill/ Congorilla volume in you somewhere!!
Wonder Woman #1 (Facsimile Edition- Original Golden Age Dimensions)

The original Wonder Woman #1 from 1942 is a POWERHOUSE of an issue. It’s chock full of story and adventure, four tales of Wonder Woman. It pits the Amazing Amazon against Mars (1st Appearance) and Baroness Paula von Gunther. The real treat here is that this facsimile is in the dimensions of actual Golden Age Comics. Comics were not only longer (64 pages), but also a lot wider and slightly taller. It’s a different reading experience holding one of these in your hands.DC has done this before with Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27, Superman #1 and Batman #1. For the Amazon trifecta DC now just needs to do Sensation Comics #1 and All-Star Comics #8!!
What are your favorite books of the week for March 18 (or 11, or both!) Hopefully, you’ll comment below…no one ever does…
