The reign of Jeremiah – the actual Joker? – continues on the next episode of Gotham. For those who have not been following, the brilliant and now-white-faced twin brother – “set free” by his deceased insane brother Jerome’s insanity gas – has made it his life’s mission to carry out Jerome’s designs from a “sane” perspective. To that end, he has taken over Jerome’s forces and stolen high-tech generators from Wayne Enterprises…and allegedly blown Jim Gordon to kingdom come.
Fox has released an official synopsis for the May 10 installment, “A Dark Knight: One Bad Day:”
As Gotham falls into complete anarchy, a team of unlikely heroes step up to save it. Bullock takes the lead at the GCPD and Bruce’s psychological limits are tested as those close to him are put in danger.
They have also released a synopsis for the season finale the following week entitled “A Dark Knight: No Man’s Land.”:
Jeremiah warns a skeptical Gordon of more destruction coming Gotham’s way, and Gordon is forced to make a potentially devastating decision. Meanwhile, Barbara rallies together a team to secure her position, as alliances in the underworld shift and prove no one can be trusted. Then, Bruce is forced to come to terms with the future.
The title for the finale alludes to the infamous 90s storyline in which a cataclysmic earthquake decimates Gotham City, resulting in the US government cutting it off from the rest of the country and leaving a distanced Batman and Gordon to restore law and order to a city gone mad. Given that Jeremiah has previously stated he needs a “blank canvas” to execute his designs, this may be a plot point given away by the writers deliberately.
